The five steps of a 60 minute facial, what to tell the therapist first, 2026 prices in Ho Chi Minh City, and what a spa does not do. Prices with sources.

A 60 minute facial at Lụa Spa (lụa means silk) has five steps: a 5 minute talk, 10 minutes of cleansing, 5 minutes under a warm towel, 20 minutes of face and neck massage, and 20 minutes for the mask and finish. No machines, no extractions, no needles. The session is called the gentle cleanse facial. It costs 790,000 VND with 8% VAT included, there is no tip to add, and Hân does it.

If you have had facials at home, some of this will be familiar and some will not. Below is each step, what the therapist will ask you first, what a spa in Vietnam should not be doing, and what a facial costs in Ho Chi Minh City in 2026 according to the pages we read. Minutes always mean time in the room with your therapist, including that first talk.

## The five steps

This is the order we use. Other spas change it, add a steamer or add machines. We keep it plain so you know where each minute goes.

### 1\. The talk: 5 minutes

You sit on the bed before lying down. Hân asks four things: how your skin felt after washing this morning, what products you use, whether you react to scents or oils, and whether there is anywhere on your face, neck or hair you would rather not have touched. She writes the answers down, along with the pressure you like.

These 5 minutes count toward the 60\. On a second visit the talk is usually a sentence or two, and the spare minutes go to the massage.

### 2\. Cleansing: 10 minutes

First, makeup and sunscreen come off with a cleansing oil or milk. Second, a mild face wash, rinsed with warm water and soft cotton pads. No scrubs, no brushes, no vibrating devices.

Coming straight from work with makeup on is fine. Towels and pads are ready; you do not need to wash your face at home first.

### 3\. Warm towel: 5 minutes

A cotton towel dipped in warm water, wrung out and laid over your face with the nose left clear. Hân tests the warmth on the back of her own hand first and swaps the towel once when it cools.

We use towels instead of a steam machine. If you dislike warmth on your face, say so in step 1 and those 5 minutes move to the massage.

### 4\. Face and neck massage: 20 minutes

The longest step. Hân uses oil or cream, starting at the neck and collarbones, then the jaw, cheeks, forehead and hairline. Medium pressure, slow, on the four-second rhythm the whole spa works to.

You can say “lighter” or “firmer” at any time; in Vietnamese, “nhẹ hơn” and “mạnh hơn” if you want to try. Clients often say they only notice their jaw is clenched when the hands get there. We make no claim about what massage does for skin. It is 20 minutes of slow hands on your face and neck, and that is what we sell.

### 5\. Mask and finish: 20 minutes

The mask stays on for 15 minutes. The lights go down, you lie still, and Hân stays in the room. Then 5 minutes to lift the mask with a warm towel, apply moisturiser, and sunscreen if you are heading back out into the afternoon sun.

You sit up, drink a glass of warm water and collect your things from the locker. The session ends at the time you booked.

## What to tell your therapist first

The 5 minute talk works best when you are direct. Here is what we need to know and why.

- **How your skin feels after washing in the morning.** Tight, calm, shiny on the forehead and nose, shiny all over, or stinging when touched. We choose products by that feeling, not by a “skin type” label. Our note on [reading how your skin feels before a facial](/en/journal/read-how-your-skin-feels-before-a-facial) shows how to keep track for a few mornings.
- **What you use at home.** Especially anything new in the last few weeks. A photo of the label is enough, which is useful if the brand is from home and we do not stock it here.
- **Scent and oil.** If you react to scents, everything in the session is unscented.
- **Places not to touch.** Some people dislike hands near the ears; some have just had their hair done.
- **Pressure.** Light, medium or firm. There is no right answer.

If this is your first spa visit in Vietnam, [your first spa visit: what to bring, ask and say](/en/journal/first-spa-visit-what-to-bring-and-ask) has a short list you can print.

The booking form asks one short question with four tick boxes: an open wound or broken skin, a skin condition a doctor is looking after, pregnancy, and reacting to scents or oils. Only the therapist sees your answers. If you tick any box, the front desk calls you before confirming.

## What a spa does not do

Lụa Spa offers non-invasive skin care and relaxation. We do not inject, use lasers or needling, prescribe, diagnose, or replace a doctor.

For a facial, that means:

- No extractions. No squeezing, no lancets.
- No machines: no suction, no electric current, no light devices.
- No chemical peels.
- No creams to buy on the way out, and no ten-session course offered on the bed.

If your skin has a wound, or a doctor is looking after a skin condition, we do not do a facial. Please ask your doctor first. A herbal hair wash (gội đầu dưỡng sinh) or a foot soak is still possible if that area is healthy.

In Vietnam the line between a spa and an aesthetic clinic is not always drawn clearly on shop signs. [Spa or aesthetic clinic: who may do what](/en/journal/spa-or-aesthetic-clinic) explains who may inject or use lasers and how to spot a place that oversteps.

## What a facial costs in Ho Chi Minh City in 2026

Prices vary widely. These are listed prices on pages we opened on 4 October 2026\. They are a reference, not a ranking.

### Why 790,000 VND

Our price sits between the neighbourhood spas and the District 1 menus. It covers:

- 60 minutes in the room with a named therapist you can choose.
- The 5 minute talk, inside the session rather than as waiting time.
- 20 minutes of face and neck massage.
- 8% VAT already added. No tip, no room fee, no product surcharge.

What it does not cover: machines, extractions and a sales pitch. If you need those, an aesthetic or dermatology clinic is the place to ask.

Vietnam’s VAT is at a reduced 8% until 31 December 2026\. If the rate changes on 1 January 2027, we repost the price list.

## How often to have a facial

There is no general number, and we will not tell you that you “need” a schedule. We have not read a source solid enough to print one.

What we see is people choosing their own rhythm. Some book once a month on the same weekday. Some come every two months. Some only before an occasion: a wedding, a trip home, Tết. All three are fine.

If you want to come regularly, the [Ten Counts card (Thẻ Mười Nhịp)](/en/memberships) covers the gentle cleanse and the calming facial (any single session up to 890,000 VND) and is valid for 12 months. It does not cover deep hydration. Do not buy a card unless you are sure you will use the visits in time.

## The four facials at Lụa Spa

All four are on the [facials page](/en/treatments/facials).

- **[Gentle cleanse](/en/treatments/facials/gentle-cleanse), 60 minutes, 790,000 VND.** The five steps above. Hân.
- **[Deep hydration](/en/treatments/facials/deep-hydration), 75 minutes, 1,090,000 VND.** The gentle cleanse plus 15 minutes: a longer massage and a second mask. People whose skin feels tight after washing often pick this one. Hân.
- **[Face massage](/en/treatments/facials/face-massage), 45 minutes, 590,000 VND.** Face, neck and scalp edge with oil or cream, no mask. Hân or Chi.
- **[Calming facial](/en/treatments/facials/calming-facial), 60 minutes, 890,000 VND.** Unscented products, no exfoliation, no warmth. Named for skin that stings when touched, not as a diagnosis. Hân.

Hân is off on Mondays. On a Monday the face massage is still available, with Chi.

Not sure which one fits? The [treatment finder](/en/treatment-finder) asks five questions and suggests one session with minutes and price. It goes by how you say you feel, not a conclusion about your skin.

## How we do it at Lụa Spa

Hân keeps a notebook with a page for every client. There is no word in it about skin “problems”. It says things like: medium pressure, towel not too warm, no scent, books after work, prefers silence during the mask. Before your next visit, she reads your page.

Claire Dubois, a French resident of Phú Mỹ Hưng, booked the 75 minute deep hydration facial with Hân for 1,090,000 VND. In the note box she wrote “no scent”. Hân used unscented products throughout and, as Claire asked, left out the warm towel; those 5 minutes went to her neck. Afterwards Claire said: “I could see the price, the minutes and who would do it before I booked.”

_An illustrative story for a demo site; figures are made up._

What stays the same in every facial:

- One therapist from start to finish. No hand-over halfway.
- You are not left waiting alone in the room before it starts.
- No cards, packages or products mentioned while you are lying down.
- The session ends on time, so you know when you will be out.
